How does StretchDollar work?
Your employer gives you a monthly, tax-free allowance for health insurance through StretchDollar. You choose the individual health plan you want, and StretchDollar pays you back each month. Here's how it works.
Why it's good for you
- You pick your plan. Choose the coverage, doctors and price that fit you and your family, not a plan someone else picked for you.
- It's tax-free. Your allowance isn't taxed as income when you use it for qualifying coverage.
- Your plan is yours. The individual plan belongs to you, so it's not tied to your employer's group plan.
- Dental and vision too. As long as you've purchased a health plan, you can add dental and vision coverage, and your allowance can help pay for it.
- Help when you want it. Book time with a licensed expert if you'd like help choosing a plan.
How it works
- Accept your invitation. You'll get an email from StretchDollar. Create your account and see your monthly allowance.
- Tell us a little about you. Enter your basic information and add any dependents you want to cover.
- Check your options. If you might qualify for a premium tax credit, StretchDollar helps you compare it with your allowance so you can pick what's better for you.
- Shop for a plan. StretchDollar recommends the top plans for you based on where you live, your household, your doctors and how you use care. You can also browse every available plan.
- Add dental and vision (optional). Pick a dental or vision plan if you want one.
- Submit proof and connect your bank. Upload proof of your plan and connect the bank account you want to be paid in.
Getting paid
- Your first month is paid quickly. Once your employer approves your reimbursement request, your first month's payment starts right away.
- After that, it's automatic. Each month, your allowance is processed on the 25th for the following month, so the money is there before your premium is due. Employees typically receive their reimbursement on or before the 1st of the following month.
- No monthly receipts. You submit proof once, and payments keep coming each month.
Bank transfers usually take a few business days to arrive, depending on your bank.
