How do I know if my existing health plan qualifies for the benefit?

Already have health coverage, or bought a plan outside StretchDollar? You can use your employer's allowance for it, as long as the plan qualifies. You don't have to buy it through StretchDollar. You just need to send us proof of the coverage.

Does my plan qualify?

Your plan qualifies if it's individual health insurance in your name, bought on HealthCare.gov, your state's marketplace, or directly from an insurer, or if you're on Medicare. These don't qualify:

  • a spouse's, partner's or parent's employer (group) plan;
  • health-sharing ministries and other arrangements that aren't insurance;
  • short-term plans;
  • dental-only or vision-only plans on their own.

Not sure about a plan you bought directly from an insurer (not on a marketplace)? Email us a recent premium bill and we'll check it.

How to get reimbursed

  1. Log in to your Benefits Portal and start your enrollment for the year.
  2. On the shopping page, click "I already enrolled in a plan", then "I purchased a marketplace plan".
  3. Upload your proof of coverage. An insurer bill or invoice, your enrollment confirmation, or a screenshot from your insurer's portal all work. Make sure it shows your name, the insurer, the monthly premium and the start date.
  4. Enter your carrier, your monthly premium and when your coverage starts. Confirm the statements, including that you're not getting a premium tax credit for this plan, and submit.
  5. Your employer reviews it. Once they approve, it shows as Active on your Auto-Reimbursement page.

When you get paid

Approved auto-reimbursements are collected on the 25th and reach your bank around the 1st of the next month. For months you've already paid, use Submit One-Time Reimbursement Request on the Reimbursements page.

Getting a tax credit for this plan?

You can't use a premium tax credit and your employer's allowance for the same months. To use the allowance, update your marketplace application to say your employer offers an ICHRA, and end the tax credit. If you'd rather keep the tax credit, choose to waive your allowance instead.
